It is a tricolour flag consisting of three equal horizontal bands of saffron, white, and green.

The saffron represents courage and sacrifice, the white represents purity and truth, and the green represents faith and fertility.

In the centre of the white band is a navy blue wheel with 24 spokes, known as the Ashoka Chakra, which represents the laws of dharma.

The Indian flag was adopted on July 22, 1947, and is flown on all government buildings and official occasions.
